Walk Cheerfully, Step Lightly Living Witness Day Conference
An opportunity to share together what it means to be a sustainable community as we realise that we are all consuming more than the earth can provide.
Start at 10.00am with refreshments from 9:30am.
Separate children’s programme for 5-12 year olds.
There will be a bring and share lunch at 1pm.
Facilitated by Living Witness Project.
“We do not own the world, and its riches are not ours to dispose of at will. Show a loving consideration for all creatures, and seek to maintain the beauty and variety of the world. Work to ensure that our increasing power over nature is used responsibly, with reverence for life. Rejoice in the splendour of God’s continuing creation.” Advices and Queries, 1994, No.42
We will start from our own concerns, values and visions and from Quaker Testimonies and practice, to explore how we can contribute to a more sustainable world. This means celebrating our diversity, recognising our gifts, and acknowledging the need to change the way we live, take direct action, and speak truth to power.
We will learn how sustainability can be fun, connecting quality of life, strong communities, and reverence for the world around us, grounded in and inspired by the spirit. We will also draw on decision-making and discernment practices used by Quakers and others, and experiment with their application to practical choices that we face in our own lives and meetings.
