Notices 4th December

Diary dates

On Thursday, 8th December, Linda Duckenfield is having her ‘au revoir’ service at the Upper Chapel at 5.45, followed by a buffet supper in Channing Hall.

At the Meeting House, Kevin Coogan from Manchester L’Arche will talk with us about how the Manchester L’Arche Community was established. This is also on Thursday, 8th December at 7.30 p.m. With refreshments from 7 p.m. If you’re interested, please come along. More information from Alan Hurford.

Next Saturday 10th December between 4.00 and 7.00pm everyone is welcome to join us here at the Meeting House to make music and eat together ….. we’ll do some singing together, led by Kate Marks and people are very welcome to bring instruments along. Please let Irene Pugh or any Overseer know if you are willing to contribute something musical. Overseers will offer a simple supper. Bring extra food if you would like to, or just come and bring your voice.

There will be a meeting of the John Macmurray Discussion Group on Thursday 15th December, 11am – 1pm. We will study Gordon Ferguson’s essay ‘Knowing’ from Friends Quarterly summer 2016, in which Gordon argues that we can better understand how we reach decisions in Meeting for Worship for Business – ‘seeking God’s will in unity’ – by looking at how we understand knowledge and knowing, which draws on John Macmurray (the Quaker philosopher)‘s theory of knowledge.

On Sunday 18th December the children and young people will present their short Christmas plays. This year these will take place in the main Meeting Room, soon after Meeting for Worship. If possible, we would like people to remain seated after notices that day, ready for the plays to begin. Afterwards there will be hot drinks and mince pies upstairs, and maybe some Sheffield carols too. Please bring mince pies, or other festive fare to share, and take these upstairs before Meeting.

On Wednesday 21st, December, there will a special Wednesday lunch of soup and bread with cheese and festive goodies to raise money for HARC – Homeless and Rootless At Christmas. A 30 minute meeting for worship will follow at 1.15pm

After Meeting for Worship on Sunday, 25th December, we’ll have a Christmas Dinner together – more info from Chrissie Hinde about how to sign up and how it will work.
