Notices 15th May

Thank you to Jayne Herrick and everyone involved in organising today’s All-Age Worship.

Special Meeting for Worship for Business
Before we move into diary dates, we wanted to let Friends know about a Special Meeting for Worship for Business to be held on 5th June. Elders and Overseers are bringing to the meeting the idea of a spiritual review to involve the whole meeting. The special business meeting will start as part of our worship at 11 a.m., finishing at 12 noon, specifically to try to involve everybody within the Meeting in the consideration. The normal Meeting for Worship for Business will continue after a break.

Dates for the Diary
The Gardening Support Group are meeting today, straight after notices in the Library – then they’re having a Work Day next Saturday , starting at 11:30 with a shared lunch. Go to today’s meeting or see Jill Whitfield for more info about how to get involved. There will also be meeting on the roof garden next Sunday at noon, to look at an itinerary.

The next Inner Quest session has been moved to Sunday 22nd May after Meeting for Worship; it will be on the theme of “What am I doing when I am holding somebody in the Light?”

The mental health sub-group of the Social Justice & Equality Group is meeting on 29th May after Meeting for Worship – the focus is to look at contributions of friends to a booklet of writing on experiences of being sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Other notices: looking further ahead.
On 1st June, Ben’s Centre are having a Book Swop from 10.30 – 2.30 – it’s a way of encouraging people to drop in and find out more about the centre, which has been providing support for homeless people for 20 years. It’s just behind the cathedral on North Church Street.

Hathersage swimming: Sunday 5th June 5 – 6pm. We will have sole use of the pool and everyone is invited – we hope you will want to join us to make it more fun – and to make it financially viable! Tickets are £4 adults and £2 for children in advance – and will be on sale after meeting today and for the next few weeks from Rosie Carnall or Mark Lallemand. We are keen to break even so please do buy a ticket – any excess proceeds will be given back to meeting funds. Any remaining tickets will be on sale on 5th June after meeting at a slightly increased price (£5/£3) – buy early to save money! You can also email Rosie (rosiecarnall@yahoo.co.uk) to request tickets too.

An enquirers day is being held at Doncaster Meeting House on Saturday 18th June from 10 – 3.30 – there’s a notice on the board with further details on it.

First Aid Course
We are considering holding a ‘First Aid for baby and child’ course to be run by the British Red Cross. CYPWC are proposing the course, but because it is designed for parents, grandparents, babysitters, carers for children, we feel that many others at Sheffield Meeting may be interested in gaining this knowledge and the skills involved. The proposed date is Saturday 2nd July in the morning with Meeting House as the venue. The course is considerably cheaper than the cost of attending as an individual. We would be asking for a contribution of between £5 and £20, to ensure that as many people as possible can take advantage of this opportunity. CYPWC would like to know if numbers would be viable, so please sign up on the list outside the Meeting Room, if you would like to attend. Please see Jayne Herrick or anyone else on CYPWC for more information.

News of Friends
Friends may remember that we announced the death of John Moore of Bakewell Meeting last week. The time of the celebration of his life has changed. It will still be held on 23rd May at the Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale, but will start at 2.30 not 1.30. Friends are asked to let Chris Moore know if they are planning to attend – contact details are on the written notices on the board.
