Living Witness Summer Gathering

Friday, 30 June 2017 - 6:00pm - Sunday, 2 July 2017 - 2:00pm

The gathering is an opportunity to reconnect with like-minded Friends and to support each other in the sustainability witness of our lives, work and communities.

We meet one month before Yearly Meeting, whose theme is “movement building.” In our Living Witness gathering we’ll ask what role Quakers can play in movement building for sustainable living. In particular how can we contribute to Hot or Cool, an exciting new international collaboration aiming for a transformation to sustainable living consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5°C?

There will also be time for rest, relaxation, walks and any other activities you’d like to offer.

We will stay at the Quaker Community, Bamford, in the Peak District twelve miles southwest of Sheffield. The Community is in beautiful countryside with hill and riverside walks. It is a half-mile walk from Bamford station with trains from Sheffield and Manchester. There are also hourly buses from Sheffield. Accommodation is comfortable and simple with shared bathrooms and toilets. Some participants will be asked to share rooms.

The cost of accommodation and food is £160 if you’re staying from Friday supper to Sunday lunch. You can stay another day before or after for £50/day including meals. Your meeting may be willing to support your attendance as part of its sustainability commitment. Living Witness may also be able to help – please do ask if you need it.
