Dates for Area Meetings 2010
In fact, we do not have them every month, we actually have 9 per year, and miss April, August and December. They are business meetings but we also have social time together as well and enjoy a shared meal. If you join the Society of Friends you become a member of your Area Meeting, not your Local Meeting. We are known as Sheffield and Balby Area Meeting, Balby being an area of Doncaster – and there was a Quaker Meeting there almost from the very beginning of Quaker history.(The founder of the Society, George Fox, and his colleague Thomas Aldham of Balby, were mobbed and imprisoned in Doncaster because of their refusal to accept social differences and the authority of the established Church.
The first Balby Meeting House was built on what is now Quaker Lane, Warmsworth.)
